»Himmelstausch« ist ein künstlerischer Beitrag zu einer friedensorientierten Erinnerungskultur, welcher der Geschehnisse im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg (1936–1939) gedenkt, einem Vorläufer aktueller Stellvertreterkriege. / »Himmelstausch« is an art project contributing to a peace-oriented memory culture. It commemorates the events during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), a precursor of current proxy wars.

Das Atelier in Berlin für die Erstellung des Gernika Himmelsbanners: Kulturwerk des bbk, Bildhauerwerkstätten Osloer Straße 102. Erbaut 1898 als Arnheimsche Tresorfabrik, wurden die Sheddachhallen im Zweiten Weltkrieg für die Rüstungsproduktion genutzt. Hier fand die Malaktion mit einem binationalen, deutsch-baskischen Team vom 18.–29. März 2019 statt. / The studio in Berlin for the painting of the Gernika Sky Piece, run by the artists organization bbk, Osloer Straße 102. Erected in 1898 for the Arnheim safe factory, the sawtooth roof buildings were used for military productions throughout World War II. Die Flugroute, von Berlin-Gatow über Berlin zurück nach Gatow. Ursprünglich war der Abwurf des Gernika-Himmels über dem Tempelhofer Feld geplant, was der Berliner Senator für Kultur und Europa, Dr. Klaus Lederer, und das Gartenamt Grün Berlin unterstützt hatten. Trotz vorbereiteter Sicherheitsmaßnahmen legte die Obere Luftfahrtbehörde Berlin-Brandenburg ein Veto ein. / The flight route, from Berlin-Gatow over Berlin back to Gatow. Primarily, the plan had envisaged the jettisoning of the Gernika sky piece over the Tempelhofer Feld, which had been supported by the Berlin Senator for Culture and Europe Dr. Klaus Lederer and the park authorities Gruen Berlin. Despite consideration of particular security measures, the Joint Upper Aviation Authority for Berlin-Brandenburg vetoed this plan.

Das Banner wechselt auf Anordnung der Ordnungskräfte des Militärs den Standort – es war anfangs in der militärischen Sperrzone ausgelegt worden. Die Wettervorhersage hatte Gewitter angekündigt, aber es blieb bei starkem Wind, der schnell wechselnde Wolken mit sich brachte. / The banner has to move after having been outstretched in a military exclusion zone at first.
